Supporting the southern African geosciences community.

The Research Education and Investment Fund was established in the 1980s to support projects and promote research and education in geoscience.

GSSA members can apply for research and education support, as well as assistance in attending conferences.

Apply for funding by completing and submitting the Application for Financial Support before 31 January each year.

The general fund is used for projects that align with the aims of GSSA, while other funds comply with conditions set out in bequests and donations.

The fund is administered by the REI Fund Committee to ensure that all of the financial assets are professionally managed.

The fund does not consider applications to cover any tuition fees or to pay for undergraduate studies.

Surplus funds from the International Geological Congress.

Attendee payments that were left over from the 35th International Geological Congress, hosted in South Africa in 2016, were invested into a fund that supports geoscience research across southern Africa.

Thank you to the people and organisations that help make our work possible.
